Frequently asked questions
What is a manual wheelchair?
A manual wheelchair has no motor. The user turns the push rims, or an attendant pushes the chair. Frames are commonly aluminium, titanium, carbon fibre or steel, and many can be built or adjusted to the user’s measurements.
How light can a manual wheelchair be?
Among the manual wheelchairs in our catalogue where a weight is published, the median is around 7.6 kg. Some figures are for the frame without wheels, so check the basis on each model page.
What is the difference between a rigid and a folding wheelchair?
A rigid frame has no folding joints, so it is stiffer and usually lighter, which many active users prefer. A folding frame packs down more easily for storage and transport.
How do I choose one?
A clinician or wheelchair service assessment should guide the choice, taking in how and where you will use the chair, your posture and your transport needs. Use the enquiry form on this page and we will pass your details to a dealer.
